Brian J. Anderson, Ph.D., serves as Executive Vice President of Energy & Utilities at System One, bringing a distinguished career spanning government, academia, and the private sector. He joins System One with deep expertise in national energy strategy, project development, and technology advancement.

Before joining System One, Brian was President and CEO of DynaVolve Energy Strategies, where he partnered with energy developers, manufacturers, and infrastructure investors to advance high‑impact projects, navigate complex markets, and align initiatives with public‑sector priorities.

Previously, Brian served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Under Secretary for Infrastructure, helping shape national strategy across energy deployment, manufacturing, security, and community revitalization. He also led the Energy Communities Interagency Working Group, directing a historic federal effort that mobilized more than $65 billion to support economic transformation in coal, power plant, and energy transition communities.

Brian’s federal leadership also includes serving as Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, where he was recognized as National Laboratory Director of the Year by the Federal Laboratory Consortium in 2021.

Earlier in his career, Brian founded and built the WVU Energy Institute at West Virginia University, strengthening national collaboration across engineering, science, technology, and policy. He also served as a professor and held the Verl O. Purdy Chair of Engineering.

A proud West Virginian, Brian remains deeply committed to advancing energy innovation, workforce development, and community prosperity. Outside of his professional work, he is an accomplished singer and has performed with the Boston and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras. He holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from MIT.
